No Modi, No Shah, its Yeddiyurappa show all the way

Karnataka's ageing Lingayat legend BS Yeddiyurappa has the last laugh. He has single-handedly won 12 of the 15 assembly seats in the key bypolls and stamped his authority in the state. Not only his government is now safe, even his position within the party is all the more firm. He is now in the driver's seat in Karnataka.

This victory is sweeter because neither Narendra Modi nor Amit Shah have campaigned in the state. It was an out and out Yeddiyurappa victory. He has planned, strategised and monitored the campaign all alone. So, the victory is his' own. No one claim a role in the victory. Thus, this has helped establish his supremacy in the state. The BJP needed six seats to retain a majority in the state. But Yeddiyurappa has all along been maintaining that the party would win 13 seats. It had won 12 and one seat has gone to a BJP rebel. Thus, he stands vindicated. Now, replacing him would be a very difficult thing even for Amit Shah and Modi.

So stunning was the defeat for the Congress that its PCC chief Dinesh Gundu Rao and its CLP leader Siddharamaih have sent in their resignations to the high command. The JDS's plight is worse. It's candidates have lost security deposits in many places and to top it all, it lost the Mandya seat, which the BJP did not win so far.
