As part of the far-reaching reforms in the field of school education, the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh government is planning to set up a scheme that would ensure a proper student-to- teacher ratio. According to this scheme, pre-primary schools would be set up within one km radius of the habitations. The classes from Class 3 to 10 would be set up within a three kilometre radius. This will ensure that the school is accessible to the students and thus the dropouts would be reduced.

This was disclosed during the Nadu Nedu review meeting held on Saturday. This also confirms to the New Education Policy enunciated by the Modi government. The proposed system will prevent crowding in the classrooms and ensures proper attention on every student who attends the school This will also help in preventing the dropouts. The aim of bringing schools within three kilometres of students is aimed at providing quality education and also at providing good infrastructure, an official who attended the Nadu Nedu review meeting said.

The Jagan government is also planning to provide playgrounds for all the schools. The government will buy lands for the purpose if need be,. At the highschool level all the schools would be provided with Internet. Another significant decision taken at the review is that no worker of the Anganwadi or any school would be laid off and no school or education centre would be closed down.

Under the first phase of 'Nadu-Nedu' scheme, the government has provided basic amenities to 15,715 government schools. In the second phase, which would be launched on July 1, as many as 44,512 schools would be covered An amount of Rs Rs 12,000 crores has been allocated for developing the infrastructure in the schools.
