Only buildings, offices remain of TDP in Telangana

Will the TDP become a thing of the past in Telangana? Will nothing except the party buildings remain as remnants of a party that ruled Telangana for nearly two-and-a-half decades? If the last sentinel of the party, LV Ramana, leaves the party, the TDP would be as good as dead in Telangana.

Since the formation of a separate Telangana state, the TDP has been on a free fall. It had won some 15 seats in 2014 assembly elections and was seen as a formidable opposition in the assembly. But, soon the exodus began and leader after leader exited the party. It began with Tummala Nageswara Rao, Rathod Satyavathi, Talasani Srinivas, Maganti Gopinath. Soon leaders like Mandava, Mallareddy, Manchireddy, Gundu Sudharani, Uma Madhava Reddy followed suit. Some leaders like Motkupalli, Peddireddy and others had joined the BJP. Only LV Ramana, who was the working president of the Telangana TDP, remained steadfastly loyal to Chandrababu. On his part, Chandrababu has time and again said that he would devote three days a week for Telangana.

But that has not happened. An occasional review meet apart, he did nothing. Now if Ramana leaves the party, the TDP would be finished in Telangana. It will be only a matter of time the TDP would be left with nothing. The leaders and the cadre have already moved to other parties. What a fall for the TDP, whose supreme boss still lives in Hyderabad but does nothing to revive the party.
