Many political rivals dubbed the village volunteer system introduced by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as a publicity gimmick and a political scheme aimed at providing employment to cadres. But, the village volunteers are proving to be very useful in several interior villages.
Here's the case in point. In Doraguda village in Munchangiputt mandal of Vizag agency region, a woman, identified as Bodri, developed delivery pains. The village is in a remote area and there was no nearby hospital. The family members found themselves in a helpless position. Village volunteer Subba Rao took the lead and arranged for a Doli. He brought the pregnant woman to Lakshmipuram panchayat headquarter village. By then, village volunteer Subba Rao arranged for a 108 ambulance. The vehicle took her to the Primary Health Centre in Munchagiputt. Thus, his initiative and effort ensured that the woman could reach the hospital on time.
However, the baby died a prenatal death. But, the doctors were able to save the life of the mother. Everyone is now praising the village volunteer for the initiative and drive he has shown. Subba Rao is an example of what village volunteers can do.
