India which is at the second spot in terms of Coronavirus outbreak has set a global record in COVID-19 recoveries, the Union Health Ministry said.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, who addressed a press conference said, the COVID-19 recoveries in the country surpassed the 51 lakh-mark, which is the highest for any country.

Talking further, the Health Secretary said, Indian took 57 days to report 10 lakh recoveries. To reach 50 lakh recoveries from 40 lakh, India took only 11 days, which is a significant fact.

Talking about the active cases, he said the active cases account for only 15 percent of India's caseload. The recovered cases translate to 83 percent of the total infections.

He went on to say that from the 15th of September to till date, the active cases in the country witnessed a significant decline and called this a sign of progress.

COVID-19 deaths in India per million population stood at 70, which is 9 times less mortality rate when compared to the likes of Brazil and the United Kingdom.

So far, a total of 61,45,292 patients in India were diagnosed with the novel Coronavirus. With 51,01,398 patients beating the virus, active cases stood at 9,47,576. 96,318 patients have succumbed to the virus.
