Here's another major shocker for the beleaguered Congress Party. One of its well-known faces and a VIP daughter has resigned from theCongress. Former MP Sushmita Deb, daughter of former union minister Santosh Mohan Deb has announced that she has resigned from the Congress Party.

Sushmita Deb has announced her leaving of the Congress Party by changing her profile in the Twitter bio. She called herself a former member of the Grand Old Party, meaning Congress Party. Later, she changed her profile to that of a woman political leader. She is expected to join the Trinamool Congress. She is likely to meet TMC general secretary and Mamta Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee soon.

In March this year, there were rumours of her leaving the Congress. However, she stayed on. Her resignation is likely to affect the morale of the Congress Party in not just Assam, but across the nation. She is an enterprising, young politician known for her fighting spirit and articulation skills. Senior dissident leader Kapil Sibal expressed concern over the resignation of the young leader and said that young leaders were leaving the party. He added that nothing is being done to strengthen the party so as to make it attractive for the young leaders.

Assam Congress president Bhupen Bora said that he was not aware of the resignation of Sushmita Deb. Sushmita's father was a powerful Congress leader and represented Silchar in Assam. She too has won from the seat after the demise of her father.
