Post Disha, 42000 calls to Dial 100 in a week

Ever since the Disha incident, Dial 100, used in case of any emergency to alert the police, is very busy. If the police sources are to be believed, over 42000 calls have been made to the Dial 100 after the Disha incident happened. Significantly, most of the calls have come from under the police commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda. A large majority of the calls are coming frm 4 pm till 2 am.
The police also said that for the last one week, a large number of the calls were congratulatory messages. The callers have congratulated the police for the speedy justice meted out to the four rapists, who had brutally raped and murdered veterinarian Disha near Shamshabad tollgate. They thanked the police for the speedy action and supported the encounter, sources said. However, a very significant number were about being stranded on the road in the dead of the night and even calls for support to fight off the eve-teasers.
Similarly, the hawk eye app, which enables the users to send videos and images of the crime to the police, has also become quite popular. Till a week ago, the Hawkeye had barely above 2 lakh downloaders. But, after the Disha incident, the number of downloaders has gone up by an additional two lakh. The response has been quite encouraging, say the police.
