Will Vizag Be Second Time Lucky For This Lady Politician?

Ten years ago, she contested for Vizag MP seat as a Congress candidate. This time around, Daggubati Purandeswari is likely to contest from Vizag again. The only difference is that she will not be a Congress candidate. She would contest on Vizag seat. Five years ago, the BJP had won Vizag seat and K Haribabu became the party MP. With Haribabu declining to contest from Vizag, the BJP is pushing for her candidature.

But this time around, things are different. There is no BJP wave in AP. The party is being criticised as anti-AP. The issue of Vizag railway zone, special status and capital city investments have put the BJP on the spot. In view of these issues, the BJP has several questions to answer. Also ,there is resentment among the people of Vizag over the meagre allocations to the North Andhra region. Given this situation, will things be in favour of Purandeswari this time? She will have to a lot of answering as she has represented Vizag earlier and was the minister at the time when the state was being bifurcated. There is an allegation against her that she has taken away one of the two ports sanctioned to Prakasam district. Even as an MP and minister, she was only a guest visitor to Vizag and was alleged to have been close only to the community that helped her in winning the elections. There are also allegations that she had only benefited this community. How can she and the BJP hope for a revival of fortunes for the BJP in Vizag, ask political watchers
