There is a growing disquiet in the ruling TRS over the continuance of the RTC strike. It is almost a month and the RTC employees are still on strike. The public transport has come to a standstill. The Government is making no effort to end the impasse. All this is making several key ministers and leaders of the TRS extremely unhappy. But, they are unable to open their mouths for fear of KCR.
With KCR himself directly handing the RTC strike, these ministers and MLAs have little to do. But, the people, especially the RTC employees, are now turning their ire on these leaders. The other day, the RTC employees have mobbed Minister Harish Rao. In Parakal, local MLA Dharma Reddy was also gheraoed. Similarly, Etela Rajender and Jagadish Reddy are also under pressure to speak up. These ministers are unhappy over the way the issue is being turned into a ‘tug of war’ and the TRS is earning a bad name.
The problem with the likes of Harish Rao is that he was till recently honorary president of the RTC employees union. So, he has deep connections with the RTC employees His silence at this time is actually denting his image badly. But, no TRS leader is willing to be seen on the wrong side of KCR. So, they are caught in a catch-22 situation.
