As many as 50 employees of Chandavaram rural water scheme in Kanigiri assembly constituency staged a dharna in front of the local YSRCP MLA demanding immediate payment of their salaries and arrears. The employees said that the MLA, who was previously involved in the maintenance of the RWS scheme, had drawn their salaries a year ago, but has not paid their salaries for over the past several months.

The protesting employees were all from Konakana Mitta area. The RWS here was previously maintained by present MLA Burra Madhusudan Yadav. Last year itself, he has drawn the money for the salary bills. But, he has not paid salaries of the maintenance staff for three-and-a-half months. The protesting employees, led by union leader Ananda Reddy, said that they have been requesting him to pay these amounts for over one year.

The employees said that they were left with no option but to protest outside the MLA’s residence. They said that they were unable to pay the school fees of their children. They also said that the MLA was dodging the payment saying that he has his daughter's marriage to perform.

This incident has created quite a sensation in Kanigiri. It could not have come at a worst time as recent surveys have suggested that most YSRCP MLAs were becoming increasingly unpopular in their constituencies.
