The ongoing pandemic originated from the Wuhan Province of China has spread to around 200 nations across the world and left 12 million people infected with the virus and claimed more than 5 lakh lives globally.
Day by day, the medical experts across the world are coming up with new information about the respiratory disease. A recent study conducted in this regard raised many questions on the herd immunity against the deadly virus.
Let's see what is this herd immunity. Whenever any contagious disease spreads in a region, a large number of people develop antibodies against the virus and develop immunity which is called hed immunity.
The herd immunity gets developed only after a mass infected with the virus and develops immunity for the disease. With more people getting immune to the disease, the disease stops spreading further from person to person.
As per the study, herd immunity is achieved for some particular diseases when around 40 percent of the public gets infected with teh contagious disease and gets immune to the disease.
On the other hand, in some rarest of the rear situations, to stop the disease from spreading further, as much as 80 percent to 90 percent population should develop immunity. The immunity might be gained either through vaccination or developing the disease symptoms.
The study analyzed around 61,075 samples were tested for the antibodies and the outcome of the study is that only a mere 5 participants who hail from Spain possess antibodies that can combat the virus.
