Swamijis and seers are known to shun politics. They may give audience to the politicians, but used to never indulge in politicking. But, those were different times. Now, Swamis are into politics. Some are dabbling in politics, while some are pulling strings from behind the curtains. Take the case of Swami Swaroopananda, the seer of Sarada Peetham. His antipathy to Chandrababu is well-known. On several occasions, he slammed Chandrababu. Starting from the selection of Muhurtam for Chandrababu's swearing in in 2014, he criticised Chandrababu. He said the Muhurtam chosen was inauspicious. Later, he began blessing YS Jagan and started performing Yagnams for him. In fact, the seer performed RajaSyamala Yagnam, a very powerful ritual for KCR’s victory over Chandrababu. Now, he has fixed Muhurtams for filing of nominations to releasing of lists for YS Jagan.
The second swamy is Jeeyar Swami. His influence over KCR is legion. In fact, KCR allowed Jeeyar to sit in the CM's chair. Stories about his influence are such that if the employees unions in Telangana have any problem, they are not going to the CM. They are going to Chinna Jeeyar Swami. The revenue staff, who are opposing KCR's move to abolish the department, met the Seer and explained their woes. Jeeyar's influence is writ large on the remodelling of Yadadri temple and in changing of rituals in Bhadrachalam.
The third Swamy is Paripurnananda. He has joined the BJP but is backing the TDP in AP. As of now, the BJP is unhappy with his open support to the TDP. He has not campaigned anywhere for the BJP during the just concluded Lok Sabha elections. Though the BJP leaders requested him to join the campaign, he did not join the campaign.
