It's been a long time since Rohit Sharma smashed a ton. Despite coming close to the three-figure score with a few fifties he could not reach the figure. Enough of waiting Rohit Sharma brought a century. After around three long years he scored a century in the ODI format.

Rohit Sharma scored a century in the ongoing match against New Zealand. In a batting-friendly pitch in Indore Rohit Sharma shined with his bat and scored a century in just 85 balls. This marks his 30th century in the 50-over format. With this, he equaled the record of Australia’s great Ricky Ponting.

Ricky Ponting has 30 tons in the 50-over format which is the third highest with Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli occupying the first two spots with 49 and 46 centuries respectively. Now Rohit Sharma became the joint third highest centuries holder.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma scored the last century in the 50-over format back on 19th January 2020. He scored a century against Australia in India. It took around three years for him to score another century.

Indore pitch has been a lucky spot for Rohit Sharma. Earlier he brought a century in the T20 format at the same venue. Back in 2017, he scored the fastest century in the short format against Sri Lanka.

Hitman Rohit Sharma also made another record. The new century marked his 28th century as an opener. He matched the record of Sri Lankan veteran player Sanath Jayasuriya.

India had a flying start in the ODI match. New Zealand won the toss and asked India to bat first. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored centuries. The duo overpowered the New Zealand bowlers to a point that the first wicket fell at 212 runs. Rohit Sharma lost his wicket after a brilliant century. Gill, Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan, and SKY joined Rohit.
