Huzurabad bypoll has become one hell of a contest between the ruling TRS and the Congress party. Both the parties have pulled all stops and have marshalled all the resources at their command. If ground reports are to be believed at least Rs 55 crore has been disbursed by all major political parties and their candidates in the last 48 hours in the constituency. All the major candidates have vied with one another to lure the voters with money.
If sources are to be believed, despite the heavy police deployment and despite the hawk eye of the election commission's observers, both the Congress and the ruling TRS have not left any stone unturned when it came to 'buying' votes. By Saturday and Sunday, most of the money was distributed. According to estimates, Rs 35 crore were distributed on Saturday night and Rs 20 crore were distributed on Sunday. It is learnt that up to Rs 3000 were given per vote and if sources are to be believed, the TRS is far ahead of the Congress when it came to distribute money. In many places, the people were made to take a vow in front of village deities that they would vote only for the party that gave them money.
The polling, which began at 8 am, has been going on at a brisk pace. The results would be expected on October 24.
