The Supreme Court which heard a petition on introducing English Medium in all the state-run schools in Andhra Pradesh refused to issue stay orders on High Court's orders.

The Apex court adjourned the next hearing to August 25th and granted two weeks for the defendants to file a counter-affidavit.

The Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy issued GO no 81.85 to make English Medium compulsory in the state-run schools from class 6 to provide quality education to poor students.

However, the Andhra Pradesh High Court quashed the GO no 81.85 and said the option to pick the medium of instructions should be decided by the parents of the students.

In the survey conducted by the state government, as many as 17,97,168 parents took part, and out of them, only 53,943 parents voted for Telugu while more than 95 percent of parents voted for English Medium.
