Ahead of Chingam 1, Malayalam New Year, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) decided to open the Sabarimala temple for the devotees, but under some rules and conditions.

Given the prevailing situations post the pandemic outbreak, TDB said only a limited number of devotees will be allowed to the shrine and only five devotees will be allowed at a time to enter the temple.

The new development came after the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) chaired a necessary meeting to discuss how to go ahead with the arrangements that have to be made at the temple for the occasion.

State Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran said that devotees will be allowed to enter the holy shrine by following the pandemic protocols so that the virus is not spread further.

On the occasion of the Malayalam New Year of Chingam 1 that falls on the 17th of August, Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) decided to conduct 'Ganapathy Homam' ritual and the devotees can also make offerings at all the temples under the TDB barring Sabarimala.
