On the allegations of match-fixing in the 2011 World Cup final, former Srilankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara was interrogated for around eight hours. The interrogation took place at the Sports Ministry's Police Unit.

The Sports Ministry started a probe into the final match of the 2011 World Cup in which India and Sri Lanka locked horns after former Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage alleged that the match was fixed.

The former Sports Minister made serious allegations on the 18th of June that the 2011 Cricket World Cup final match was fixed. Following this, he was summoned and interrogated for eight long hours. However, he was given a clean chit.

The news of veteran cricketer interrogated did not go well with the fans as they staged a protest against this outside the Sports Ministry's office, where he was interrogated.

Former Srilankan players and some political leaders too supported the left-hand batsman in this case and lashed out at former Sports Minister for making such false allegations.
