Setback to Komatireddy: Key BJP leaders join TRS
X
When he resigned from the Congress and decided to contest from Munugode on a BJP ticket, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy had everything going for him. He was fancied to get a facile win and the other parties appeared to be in a total disarray. However, things are not appearing as rosy as one thought they would be.

Two things appear to be going against Rajagopal Reddy these days. One – he expected the whole of the Congress cadre to accompany him into the BJP. Most of the Congress leaders are his close camp followers. They grew with him. So, he expected that they would follow suit and join the BJP. However, that did not happen. Many, in fact, a majority are still in the Congress Party. This has come as a shock to Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy.

Secondly, several senior BJP leaders appear to be unhappy with the entry of Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy into the BJP. They feel that their chances of growth in the BJP have been hit by his entry. Many are sulking. They are keeping a low profile and are not joining the campaign. This appears to have hit the Komatireddy campaign in Munugode.

Recently, two key BJP leaders from Marriguda, the mandal to which TRS candidate Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy belongs, have joined the TRS. The leaders – Cheruku Sriramulu and Kotha Mallaiah – are the president and general secretary respectively of the BJP in Marriguda mandal. If sources are to be believed, more defections could happen in the BJP.

All these have dampened the enthusiasm of Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy. He is said to have set up a close group to monitor the performance of other BJP leaders from the constituency. He is now said to be working overtime to keep the flock together.
