On January 23rd, Nandi Idol weighing one-tonne was stolen from the Bala Tripura Sundari Sametha Agastheswara Swamy Temple at Ramachandrapuram, East Godavari District. The stolen idol was recovered from a distance of 50 kilometres from the famous temple.

Ramachandrapuram Sub Inspector S Lakshmikantam told, 'Stolen Nandi Idol was recovered. 7 Accused were taken into custody. We launched a manhunt to nab five others who were involved in the case. During the interrogation, We came to know that Accused had stolen the idol believing the words of a Sadhu who assured about the presence of diamonds in the idol'.

After stealing the idol, The Accused had sliced the Nandi Idol into pieces. Much to their shock, They did't find any diamonds in it.

Seems like, Valuable idols and Crowns in the AP temples aren't safe anymore. On Saturday, Three Golden Crowns were stolen from Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple in Tirupati. AP Government need to seriously consider deploying police force round the clock at all the famous temples.
