SC Upholds Travancore Royal Family's Rights In Administration Of Historic Temple

The Supreme court of India on Monday upheld the rights of the royal family of Travancore in the administration of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
The controversy over the administration and management of the rich and historic temple was pending in the top court for the last nine years in the wake of charges of alleged financial irregularities.
The Kerala High Court ruled in 2011 that royal family rights had ceased after the death of the last ruler of Travancore in 1991. The Court said a trust should be set up to look after the temple management responsibilities.
After nine years, the Supreme Court dismissed 2011 orders and stated that family rights would not be revoked by the death of the last ruler. Thus, the responsibility of temple management falls to the Travancore royalty.
