TDP down in the dumps in this key district

Nellore, one of the most important and politically very sensitive districts, is in disarray for the TDP. The party unit is riven by infighting and groupism. Key leaders are fighting among themselves and this has become a big headache for party chief Chandrababu Naidu.

Several key TDP leaders have left the party ahead of the 2019 assembly elections and this has left the party considerably weakened. Also, leaders like Bommireddy Raghavendra Reddy, who were brought in by Chandrababu from the YSRCP, have been highly inactive. They have done nothing to strengthen the party. Senior leaders like Bollineni Krishnaiah and former MLA from Venkatagiri Kurukondla Raghavendra are confined to personal work and are not devoting any time for the party work. Beeda brothers, who were the financial mainstay of the party in Nellore, are now out of the party. One of them - Beeda Mastan Rao - has joined the YSRCP while the other is planning to join the BJP. Except former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, no leader worth the salt is meeting the media.

The TDP has no leadership in constituencies like Nellore city, Nellore rural, Atmakur and Sarvepalli, where the YSRCP is quite strong. Given this position, what Chandrababu will do to rejuvenate the party remains to be seen. If Chandrababu's recent visit is any indication, the party workers are low on morale. Even Chandrababu's visit has failed to enthuse them.
