Public policy think tank NITI Aayog had announced the list of the poorest states in the country in its latest report that was compiled by taking various aspects into consideration like nutrition availability, proper nutrition deprivation. The list was prepared based on the parameters of the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI).

As per the list, Telangana was in the 18th position. As much as 13.74 percent of the state's population is poor. To be precise, the erstwhile Adilabad district possesses the highest percent of the poor in the state followed by Mahabubnagar and Nizamabad. However, Telangana fared well in terms of nutrition availability.

Coming to nutrition availability, Telangana has better numbers than states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Karnataka.31.10 percent of people in the state won't have access to proper nutrition.

On the other hand, 12.79 percent of the state's population won't possess any assets, which includes car, bicycles, motorbike, Mobile Phone, refrigerator, radio, and television.

Bihar was declared the poorest state in the country with a poor population of 51.91 percent. Jharkhand(42.16), Uttar Pradesh(37.79), Madhya Pradesh(36.65), and Meghalaya(32.67) percent are at the next positions in the list.
