Telangana is Violating the AP Reorganization Act: AP Government

The AP Government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to order the Centre to not allocate national project status to Kaleshwaram Project which is being constructed by the Telangana government. The AP government is seeing this as a disturbance to the interests of the AP Farmers.

The petition was filed by L Premachandra Reddy, AP Advisory Committee member-secretary. The plea was an additional counter-affidavit connection with the case related to the implementation of the provisions of the AP Reorganization Act.

The AP government claimed that the government of Telangana has violated the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal Award and AP Reorganization Act by taking up the projects utilizing 450 TMCs of Godavari waters.

"In the name of re-engineering, the Telangana government has taken up Kaleshwaram project (in place of original Pranahita-Chevella project) to utilize 225 tmc of Godavari waters. This is a new project, with a complete change in the scope of the original project. Despite several objections, the Central Water Commission gave the clearance to the project in June 2018," read the affidavit.

The Telangana government has objected to the affidavit filed by the AP government. It said that the project is using water of 954 TMCs, quota allotted to it.
