Telecom Companies has been bearing a loss of around Rs 2.45 crore ($350,000) per hour whenever they are forced to suspend Internet Services by the Government to curtail protests against the Citizenship Amendment Law.

Parliament passed the Citizenship Amendment Law three weeks ago. Since then, Protests were staged across the nation over the possibility of National Register of Citizens. Violent incidents were reported in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Northeast States. Government ordered Telcos to opt for Internet Shutdowns in various regions to bring the Law & Order situation under control.

On December 27th, Shutdown of Mobile Internet was ordered by Government in as many as 18 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Until December 28th morning, Internet Services won't be available on the outskirts of New Delhi.

As per Ericsson, Indians mobile data consumption is around 9.8 gigabyte per month on an average. Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) told Internet Shutdowns has only increased the woes of Telcos which are already on ventilator due to price war.
