Central American country, Coast Rica gave a nod to same-sex marriages on Tuesday, and this is the first country in Central America to do so.

President Carlos Alvarado tweeted "Costa Rica officially recognizes equal marriage. Today we celebrate freedom, equality and democratic institutions. May empathy and love be the compass that allows us to get ahead and build a country where all people fit."

The legalization of the same gender marriages is a great victory for the progressive movements in the country and they wanted to celebrate it widely. However, due to the physical distancing norms imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus they were cancelled.

Soon after the judgement was passed a lesbian couple Darita Araya Arguedas, 24 and Alexandra Quiros Castillio, 29 got married. Their marriage was broadcasted on the state television.
