Now, leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Chandrababu Naidu cannot go on foreign tours without the special security of the Special Protection Group (SPG). If Union Home Minister Amit Shah has his way, the VIP politicians will have to have SPG protection even when they are away on some foreign land. The government is now trying to amend the rules in such a way.

Normally, leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Chandrababu Naidu leave SPG protection behind when they go on foreign tours. Especially, Rahul Gandhi is known to be mysterious about his foreign tours. They are known to be very private and no one knows about his whereabouts. This poses a security risk. So, the BJP government is trying to provide security even when they are on foreign tours. Interestingly, Rahul Gandhi is currently on a private tour of Combodia and the Congress Party is trying every trick in the trade to deflect attention from his tour.

Chandrababu's Singapore tours, which are always dubbed personal, have always raised doubts. There were no details about who meets and what he does during those private tours sans his security coverage. The YSRCP has always criticised these tours and said they were meant to fix business deals. If the new rule comes into force, his tours too would be under SPG protection. So, what will Rahul Gandhi and others who go on secret private tours do now. They are already criticising the move saying that Amit Shah wants to keep a tab on their movements abroad.
