The House of Representatives led by the Democratic party has voted to impeach the American President Donal Trump on the grounds of -abuse of power and obstruction of the Congress. Trump is not the first President of America to be impeached.

These are the other Presidents to get impeached

Andrew Johnson

Andrew Johnson was the 17th President of the US who served the nation from April 1865 to March 1869. He was the Vice President when Abraham Lincoln was the President when he was assassinated, Johnson assumed the presidency.

Soon after the Civil War was concluded he came to power. According to some media reports, Johnson has constant difficulties with the Republican-led Congress on how to reconstruct the defeated US South.

The Republicans pushed for a legislation to punish former Confederate leaders and protect the rights of freed slaves. Johnson has used his Presidential powers to prevent the Republican efforts every time.

This conflict resulted in the impeachment by the House. Interestingly, he was acquitted in the Senate seat with just one vote.

Richard Nixon

Richard Nixon, who was the 37th President of the US has served from January 1969 to August 1974. His near-impeachment traces back to the 1972 break-in of the Democratic Party's headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington D.C.

Investigated stated that those burglars were paid with funds of Nixon's campaign for re-election.

In August 1974, with the House Judiciary Committee preparing impeachment articles, Nixon was forced to release Oval Office recordings in which he was heard ordering his staff to have the CIA tell the FBI to stop its investigation into the Watergate break-in.

The same month he was resigned from the office fearing a loss of political support and he will be impeached and expelled from the office. He is the only US President to do so till now.

Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton, who was the 42nd American President was under a probe as a Justice Department prosecutor in relation to the real estate dealings and his alleged affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. He was under the probe within just one year of taking the office in January 1993.

In Dec 1998, the House of the Representatives along the party lines have voted to impeach Clinton under two charges-perjury and obstruction of Congress. He was acquitted by the Republican-controlled Senate in Feb 1999.

For the year that the Lewinsky-Clinton scandal consumed the country, the President resisted growing calls to resign, the BBC said in a report.

In the same year, the scandal of Clinton and Lewinsky has shocked the entire nation and he was forced to resign from the President's office.

Clinton left the office in January 2001 with the approval rating of 65 percent which is the highest ever for any American President since the WW II
