Procuring medical oxygen to treat the Covid-19 patients became the need of the hour in India. Several hospitals in the country are requesting the governments to look into the shortage of medical supplies.
When the medical facilities are gasping for medical oxygen, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has decided to produce medical oxygen, by shutting down its manufacturing units.
In a press release, Maruti Suzuki said, oxygen will be used in big quantities to manufacture components and in this scenario, the oxygen should be diverted to save pandemic patients.
"As part of the car manufacturing process, Maruti Suzuki uses a small amount of oxygen in its factories while relatively much larger quantities are used by the manufacturers of components. In the current situation, we believe that all available oxygen should be used to save lives," the company said.'
The manufacturing unions in Gujarat and Haryana have decided to shut down plants in the respective states and the oxygen will be diverted to the medical facilities.
In a few instances, Covid-19 patients in a few states have breathed their last, due to the shortage of medical oxygen supply. Given the tough situations, foreign crickets have donated to the country for medical oxygen.
