A division bench of Telangana High Court that comprises Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice T Vinod Kumar heard a petition filed by one M Venu Madhav, an advocate on the immersions of Plaster of Paris idols of Lord Ganesha for the Vinayaka chavithi.

Hearing the petition, the High Court issued directives saying that the idols made of Plaster of Paris cannot be immersed in water bodies and they can only be immersed in special water bodies.

A rubber dam should be made available at Hussain Sagar for the immersions of the idols and the idols should be immersed in the particular dams. The immersions should be done as per the instructions, the Court said.

The Telangana High Court had directed the state government to implement the restrictions issued and maintained that no Plaster of Paris idols should be allowed and the immersions on the Tank Bund side of Hussain Sagar should be permitted. Eco-friendly idols and small idols should be encouraged, the court observed.
