A tunnel that connects the iconic Red Fort was discovered at the Legislative Assembly in the national capital Delhi on Friday. The tunnel was discovered at the spot where the Assembly members gather for the meeting.

The Assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel spoke to the News Agency ANI on the tunnel and said, the tunnel was discovered in the Assembly and said the structure was used by the Britishers back then.

Ram Niwas Goel had assured that no digging at the tunnel will take place as the tunnel was subjected to destroy as part of the works carried out for the metro project works and the swerve works. No digging works will take place further.

Media reports have quoted the Delhi Assembly Speaker as saying that he used to hear stories about a mysterious tunnel under the Assembly structure that connects the Red Fort. The Speaker made efforts to know about the tunnel in the history books but there is no info on it, as per reports.

These reports have also said that the Assembly Speaker spoke about the renovation of the tunnel and making it ready for the public to have a look. The renovation works are expected to kickstart soon and the renovated tunnel is likely to be made available by the 76th anniversary of Independence.

We had recently celebrated the 75th anniversary of Independence. As the 76th anniversary falls next year, the renovation works might be finished by 2022 August.

He had alleged that there used to be a prison in the place of the current Assembly structure and the tunnel might have been used by the British rulers to shift the fighters to the prison. Saying that few prisons are there in the Punjabi Bagh locality in Delhi, the Assembly speaker said he had visited a few prisons on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Independence.

Delhi has been the capital of the country historically. Be it any dynasty like the Mughals, Khilji dynasty, Tughlag Dynasty, Sayyid Dynasty. Their capital used to be the Delhi region. Using Delhi as the main base, the rulers of the various dynasties have ruled the country.
