Even while criticizing YS Jagan's style of governance and his freebies, senior politician, two-time MP and close associate of Jagan's father, Undavalli Arunkumar admitted that YS Jagan's popularity ratings were quite high and that he has caught the imagination of the people.

In an interview to a YouTube channel, Arun Kumar said that Jagan's image was largely unsullied and that the people were supporting him. He also admitted that the slew of welfare schemes that YS Jagan was implementing gave him a very positive image. He said that Jagan's popularity ratings were still very high. Though he might not like a few things in YS Jagan, it does not mean that he is unpopular.

He said that the programmes should be aimed at making people self-sufficient and not dependent. He said the government must focus on income generation. He said he was opposed to the way the funds were being raised for the programme. He said that borrowing for infrastructure building and resource generation was good, but borrowing for indiscriminate spending was wrong
