The freebies culture is the most talked-about issue in the country right now. Giving momentum to the Union government’s views on the freebies, the Supreme Court also said that the freebies culture is dangerous and urged the Centre to look into the issue and take measures to stop the trend.

Having said that, the Apex Court urged the Union government and other political outfits to place their version and opinion on the freebies. The likes of the grand old Congress and Delhi-based Aam Aadmi Party already told their version. It is no wonder that Aam Aadmi Party which rose to power with the freebies campaign in Delhi and Punjab supported the freebies.

Now the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK) in Tamil Nadu became the new party to react to the freebies issue. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin approached the Supreme Court with a petition on the freebies row. The ruling party supported freebies that benefit people in the form of welfare schemes.

Talking in favour of the freebies, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that the welfare schemes are aimed at securing economic justice. The DMK chief also maintained that securing social order is guaranteed by the Indian Constitution under Article 38.

Supporting freebies, the Tamil Nadu government in its petition said that the standard of living of people has improved and the education standards also went up. This shows how strong the ruling party is in favour of the freebies culture.

Maintaining its strong nature against the union government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, DMK said that the tax holidays and the bad loans waiver given to the industrialists should also be seen as freebies and this angle should not be missed. With this, the DMK joined the list of parties that spoke in favour of the freebies and supported the trend.

DMK supporting freebies is not a wonder given the political nature of Tamil Nadu. For a very long time freebies have been playing an important role in shaping the election result. As freebies have a hit percentage the political parties doesnt shy away from spending big amounts. Right before the elections, the freebies are given. Items like TVs, Mixer Grinders, and Washing Machines will be given to voters to get the votes.
