Why Are Containment Zone Areas Shrinking In GHMC?

Are financial constraints hitting GHMC's containment zone plans? It appears so. Of late, the GHMC is only limiting itself to guarding smaller pockets in containment zones. They are reducing the area under containment zone and are allowing movement in the affected areas.

If GHMC sources are to be believed, it is because the GHMC does not have the financial resources to lockdown the whole colony. Instead, it is focusing on a few houses in the vicinity of a Covid positive case. Also, it is advising home quarantine instead of hospitalization . instead of the earlier three km radious, the containment today is for just one km. The houses in the area would be monitored and the lockdown would be implemented in this area only. This brings down the staff deployed in the area from 30 to 10. Similarly, two para-medical staff would be deployed and that too in one shift only. This brings down the costs, a GHMC official said.

The reduction of the area under containment would help reduce the burden on the financial and human resources, a GHMC official said. Significantly, Hyderabad district has the maximum number of Covid cases.
