Why has the Congress Party suddenly mellowed down and why is the party not going hammer and tongs against the Modi government?
Suddenly, the Congress has gone very civic and is praising the steps being taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on controlling Corona. Even arch foe like former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has supported the measures. He is playing the role of a constructive opposition leader. Not just that he termed the lockdown a "watershed" moment. He even said that the Prime Minister is the commander and the people are the foot soldiers. Not content with, he even said: We owe a duty to extend our total support to the prime minister and the Central and state governments."
Sources say the reason why the Congress has mellowed down so much only after it has seen the massive groundswell of support for Narendra Modi after the Janata Curfew. The way the whole nation responded by clapping after the Janta curfew must have made it to realise that it cannot play the obstructionist opposition anymore and that it should fall in line. Even Rahul Gandhi, who initially slammed Modi, has fallen inlike. One wonders is the change for the real or due to political pragmatism. The Congress clearly has seen the writing on the wall and feels it should bide for its time to come.
