Why Upendra reminds us of this

Film stars may have an aura and a charisma of their own. They may attract swooning crowds at their rallies, but when it comes to politics, the game is entirely different. Your popularity might not translate into votes. Lot of other things come into play and the biggest of the stars might end up as the largest losers.

Take the case of Kannada super star Upendra. Long before the 2018 assembly elections, he had announced the formation of his party Uttama Prajakiya Party. But, when the elections came, he and his party chose to opt out and did not contest the elections. And why did he not contest? On his own admission, he did not contest because he was busy with the films. But, for the upcoming bypolls in Karnataka, his UPP is ready to fight. Upendra, who introduced his candidates the other day, said due to filmi preoccupations, he chose not to contest in the assembly elections, but that he is contesting in the bypolls. He said he is yet to decide on whether to contest in the next assembly elections, which would be held in 2023.

He has also said that he would not comment on the present state of politics in Karnataka. Sounds eerily similar to a film star-turned-politician in Andhra Pradesh, doesn’t he? We too have a politico who behaves very much like Upendra. We know, you already know the answer.
