Why is RK saying he would not contest from Mangalagiri again?

Is giant killer and two-time MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy planning to hang his boots? What does one make out of his recent statement that he would not contest the elections again from Mangalagiri assembly constituency and that he is all for promoting a BC politician as the party candidate? What's the rationale behind these comments?

RK or Alla Ramakrishna Reddy emerged as a giant killer by defeating TDP general secretary and Chandrababu Naidu's son Nara Lokesh by 5000 votes in the 2019 elections. Though the TDP tried to explain away the defeat as being caused due to the division of the votes by the Left Front candidate, RK claimed that his hard work and the party's image were responsible for his victory.

However, RK became inaccessible soon after the election victory. There seems to be a change in the perception of the voters over the last three years. Also, he is being accused of doing nothing when the officials removed the huts on the river embankment region. Let alone doing anything, RK personally supervised the encroachment removal operations on the embankment.

Sources say that RK is afraid of the anti-incumbency sentiment in the constituency and feels that the division of votes that helped him win the election in the 2019 elections, may not happen this time if the TDP and the Jana Senaj join hands in alliance. To add to RK's woes, the YSRCP too is a much divided house in Mangalagiri. Taking all these into consideration, he may have likely decided not to contest the next elections.
