In 1996, Chandrababu Naidu snatched TDP from NT Rama Rao with the support of majority of MLAs. NTR lost control on the party floated by him because most of the TDP legislators shifted loyalties to Babu during August crisis.
If 2/3rd MLAs/MPs of a party jump into other party, Anti-Defection Law can't be applied in such cases. That is what happened when four Rajya Sabha MPs of TDP joined BJP recently. Now, The Saffron Party seems to be implementing the same strategy in Assembly as well.
TDP won 23 MLA Seats in 2019 Elections. If 16 out of them jump into any other party, Then the Rebels could move the proposal of claiming authority over TDP. In that way, Telugu Desam can be snatched from Naidu.
If the speculations are true, Ganta Srinivasa Rao was assigned the duty of attracting as many TDP MLAs as possible with the offer to make him CM if BJP forms the government. This Senior Leader had the history of taking 3 to 4 leaders along with him whenever he changes a party. Can he make 15 MLAs follow him by taking the support of his relative P Narayana is a million dollar question?
