Lt-General Manoj Mukund Narvane who took charge as Army staff chief has joined his two batch mates from the National Defence Academy to lead the military pinnacle of the Nation.

Chiefs of the three chiefs Lt-General Narvane, Admiral Kaeambhir Singh(Naval) and Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria(Air) have joined the Defence Academy in 1976. After forty-four years the three were appointed as the chief of armed forces.

While Admiral Singh became Navy Chief on May 31, Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria became Air Chief on September 30 and their batch made Lt-General Narvane became Army Chief.

After completing three years in the academy, the three chiefs went to their respective service academies, before becoming the officers in June-July 1980.

"It's extremely rare for three NDA course-mates to become chiefs of their respective services because there are so many permutations and combinations involved like date of birth, career progression, merit, seniority and, of course, plain and simple luck," a senior officer said.
