Akshay Kumar faced backlash for not voting in the 2019 Lok Sabha Polls though PM Narendra Modi appealed him to Vote and he even offered a chance to interview him ahead of the polling. That's when focus shifted to his Canadian Citizenship. Finally, The Bollywood Khiladi broke his silence over the issue.

In his public statement, Akshay Kumar admitted he is a honorary citizen of Canada. 'I am an honorary citizen of Canada, people should be proud of it. I have an honorary doctorate too but I'm not a doctor...people need to understand that!,' he said.

The Bollywood Actor claimed he never hid or denied holding a Canadian Passport. He maintains, 'I haven't visited Canada in the past 7 years...It's a truth. I work in India and pay all my taxes in India. Until now, I never felt the need to prove my love for India. Disappointing that my citizenship issue is being raised constantly for needless controversies. I will continue to contribute to the causes I believe in and make India stronger'.

Akshay Kumar lives in India, works in India, pays taxes in India but doesn't vote in India. Sounds interesting...isn't it?
