However much Chief Minister YS Jagan may speak against gender harassment and warn the partymen to deal with women with utmost respect, his followers continue to indulge in abusing and outraging women. A minister and a senior MLA are already in the dock for the sleaze talk with women. The latest is that a party functionary is now being accused of raping a physically disabled woman.

The shocking incident occurred in Sileru village of GK Veedhi mandal in Vizag district. According to the local police, the disabled victim was living with her mother after being abandoned by her husband. She was eking out her livelihood by running a groceries shop.  For the past one week, her mother was in Vizag as her son was unwell.

Finding the woman alone, a former president of the local YSRCP unit accosted her and tried to gag her. He then raped her and threatened her not to tell anyone. However, the woman told her mother, who lodged a complaint with the police. The perpetrator was identified as one Nalla Venkata Rao.

The police took a serious view of the offence and sent the girl for medical examination at Vizag.  A case was booked against Venkata Rao under section 376 of the IPC and is it being reported that he has been taken into custody. The incident has caused quite a sensation in the agency area and the Opposition parties are targeting the YSRCP for the incident.
