ATA celebrates Dasara with traditional fervor in New Jersey

New Jersey: American Telugu Association (ATA) celebrated Dasara with great pomp and fanfare. More than 800 people from across the tristate area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, as well as Pennsylvania and Delaware attended the program at Royal Albert’s Palace in Fords, New Jersey on Sunday, October 25.

The five-hour celebrations began with the traditional Durga Pooja. After other rituals attendees exchanged greetings with "Jammi Aaku (leaf)".

Priest Velamuri, a resident of New Jersey, explained the significance of the occasion, saying that at the beginning of every program the blessings of the goddess are invoked. He noted that any piece of work that begins on this day with devotion and sincerity will be successful.

ATA President Sudhakar Perkari addressed the gathering and spoke eloquently about the organization, its values and services to the community. He requested everybody present at the gathering to become ATA members.

Also invited attendees to attended ATA vedukalu which will be taking place in the month December 2015 in various parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states to bring the attention to ATA Foundation activities and provided connectivity and communication between India and USA as well as provided a forum to promote 14th ATA conference.

Telangana legislative Council Chairman Swamy Goud attended as a special guest to this event and he was felicitated by entire ATA team. Some of ATA leaders came all the way from Chicago, Dallas and other far-away places.

Dance segments were choreographed among others by Indira Reddy, artistic director at the Center for Kuchipudi Dance in Kendall Park, New Jersey. Her students performed traditional and folk dances and mesmerized the gathering.

With their glittering dresses and great footwork, the dancers took the spectators to a different world and time, Ramya Krishna's, popularly known as Racha Ramulamma, master of ceremonies kept the audience in an upbeat mood, back home Singers Sameera Bharadwaj, Saketh Komanduri,and Dr Swaroopa songs raised the level of enthusiasm of the audience who listened to their singing.

The celebration was attended by community leaders from organizations such as NATA, TANA, TDF and TFAS. Upendra Chivukula, Commissioner of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, Sridhar Chillara, CEO of TV5 USA, was among the dignitaries present.

Other prominent attendees were--ATA past presidents Hanmanth Reddy, Sandhya Gavva, Rajendar Jinna, Joint Treasurer Suresh Jilla, Executive Director Krishna Dyapa, Board of trustees Parushuram Pinnapureddy, Parmesh Bheemreddy, Vinod Koduru, Laxman Anugu, Srinivas Dargula,Venu Sankineni, Ravi Patlola; Regional Director Raghuveer Reddy, Conference Adhoc Committee members Sharat Vemula,Vijay Kundur; America Bharathi Chair Raj Seelam, Publicity Chair Satya Peddireddy, Audit committee Chair Raj Chilumula, Co-Chair Ravinder Guduru, Health Committee Chair Vijay Gangula, Delaware Regional Coordinator Hanu Thirumal, Past Treasurer Narayana Pirlamarla; Srikanth Gudipati, Ram Vemula; JET USA President Govindraj Thota, NATA leaders President Elect Rajeshwari Gangasani, Joint Secretary Srinivas Ganagoni, TANA Regional Coordinator Laxmi Devineni, TAFAS Vice President Guru Alampalli, Cultural Secretary Sridevi Jagarlamudi and many other local leaders.

Many attendees praised the ATA team for its efforts in conducting the Dasara event in the traditional way. Food served was authentic Telugu cuisine with pickles that were special to the region.

The ATA organizing committee (NJ board of trustees, regional and local coordinators) expressed its thanks to all the supporters who made the program a grand success. Specially thanked Shireesha for making venue beautiful.
