Why Is GHMC Polling Percentage So Low?
X
The extremely low polling percentage in the GHMC election has left the political pundits and activists completely baffled. The voters simply did not turn up at the polling booths and by late evening, the polling percentage in at least 15 to 20 wards is less than 10 per cent. In some places however, the polling percentage has crossed 40 per cent.

Questions are now being asked as to what was the reason for the low poll percentage in the twin cities despite the high voltage campaign by both the TRS and the BJP. Sources say that while considerable number of voters have already left for their native placed availing the “work from home” facility were large number of voters could not vote as the State Election Commission has failed to distribute the voter slips properly. There were complaints galore from the voters that the voter slips were not supplied and even when supplied, the details were not complete. For instance, on several voter slips, only the polling centre's name was given. The exact location was not given. As a result, the voters were unable to identify their centres. Similarly, in cases where the slips were given, the polling centres were wrongly mentioned. Consequently, the voters failed to reach their polling centres.

Many feel that the Election Commission has failed the voters. But, in many cases in the Old City, the voters simply did not come out to vote. The reason could be that the voters, especially the Muslims, are fed up with the MIM.
