Team India’s run at the 2023 World Cup came to an end. Contrary to the fans' expectations, the tournament did not end on a high note for the Men In Blue. India could not win the World Cup trophy as Australia emerged victorious.

As Rohit Sharma could not lift the World Cup, a debate was started on what would be his future. He cannot play the next 50-over World Cup as he is already 36. He will turn 40 by the next tournament and he has fewer chances to make it to the team.

As the T20 World Cup will be played next year there is a growing demand to make Rohit a part of the team. Players like Gautam Gambhir are demanding that Rohit Sharma should lead the team in the tournament and not be a player.

Now legendary Sri Lankan player Muttiah Muralitharan made some key comments and said Rohit Sharma can play the T20 World Cup. He shed light on Rohit Sharma’s strike rate in the recent World Cup edition.

The ace player said Rohit Sharma had a good strike rate in the World Cup which would be good enough for the T20 World Cup as well. However, the player has a condition for Rohit Sharma.

Muttiah Muralitharan said that Rohit Sharma can play the T20 World Cup if he can maintain fitness like Virat Kohli does. He said Rohit gave a good start in the tournament with a good strike rate but having fitness is key in T20s.

“Rohit batted aggressively and gave good starts to the Indian team in the ICC ODI World Cup. He never failed and is only 36. He can play in another World Cup if he pushes his fitness like Virat Kohli,” Muttiah Muralitharan said.

It's been around one year since Rohit Sharma played the T20s. The last time Rohit played the short format was the T20 World Cup in 2022 in which India was defeated by England with a big margin of 1o wickets.
