The predictions did not go wrong as India started the stint with a super win by crushing the mighty Australia in the first match. Men In Blue followed the superb form with two more wins.
India crushed arch-rivals Pakistan with seven wickets. With a third win to its name India is now the table toppers. With three wins, India is in the top place with a run rate of +1.821. New Zealand which also won three matches is in second place.
Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium became the venue for the high-octane match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. India won the match by crushing Pakistan by seven wickets. With this, India held the record of remaining unbeaten by Pak in the 50-over format. India won all the eight matches.
After restricting the arch-rivals to just 191 runs, India started the chase with a flying note. Both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had a good start by scoring some boundaries. Though Gill was sent back for just 16, Rohit Sharma stood rock solid and played a good knock of 86 runs.
Fans hoped that Hit Man would score a century. The Indian skipper looked in good touch with some boundaries in sixes. Rohit Sharma who emerged as the player with the most sixes in international cricket now holds the record of highest sixes for any Indian batsman. Overall he is the third player with 300 sixes in the ODI format after Shahid Afridi and Chris Gayle.
Before the start of the match, a few former players advised Rohit Sharma to be careful with Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and others. But Rohit Sharma proved them all wrong by attacking the Pak bowling lineup. He smashed sixes in almost everyone’s bowling.
Given the small target, many felt that India would win the match by ten wickets and avenge the revenge as Pak crushed us by ten wickets in the T20 World Cup. However, that did not happen as India lost three wickets. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli were out on 16. Rohit Sharma who looked in good touch was out at 86.
