By: Tupaki Desk | 6 Nov 2023 9:03 AM GMTAs the World Cup is getting close to the end the tournament is getting interesting. The race to the semis stage has become interesting as only three teams can make it to the stage while the others have to just watch them play. Two teams already fixed their spot for the semis.
India is the host and entered the tournament as one of the hot favorites. Living up to the expectations India recorded eight consecutive wins and fixed its place for the semis fight. It is the first team to reach the semis stage of the World Cup.
India, the table toppers are in the semis and South Africa also fixed its stop. Now the focus is on two teams that can reach the semis and reach finals if they can pass through the crucial knockout stages. A few teams have chances but there are a few conditions to this.
Australia is still in the race with ten points. The Kangaroo team won five matches and has a run rate of +0.92. The team has two more league matches agonist Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Australia has to win the two matches and if it can manage to have a good Net Run Rate(NRR) then it can enter the semis.
New Zealand which started the tournament with a bang had failed to continue the momentum and recorded four consecutive losses making the chances less. With eight points in hand, the 2019 Runner-up has a chance to enter the semis if it can defeat Sri Lanka by a huge margin.
Pakistan is also in the race to semis. The team improved its chances of entering the semis with a thrilling victory against New Zealand. As the team scored quick runs and improved NRR, it will have a big chance if it can crush defending champions England by a big margin. England defeated Pakistan in the T20 World Cup final and Pakistan can take revenge in the match.
Afghanistan made a miraculous comeback with regular wins. The team won four out of seven matches. With two matches to be played next, the team should win them by a big margin so that it can still stay alive in the semis race.
However, experts say that Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Bangladesh, and England should lose hope. They are almost out of the league with fewer points and their possible chances of progressing further are dependent on the other teams.
We will get a clear picture of the semis stage in a few days. India is at the top position and the top four teams will play the semis. India will lock horns with the team which reaches the fourth spot. Teams that are in second and third spots will lock horns. South Africa is in the second spot now.
