Senior star Nandamuri Balakrishna’s latest movie “Akhanda 2” has been released amidst huge expectations on December 12th after a postponement from Dec 5th. Directed by Boyapati Sreenu, who delivered the blockbuster Akhanda earlier, and with a background score by SS Thaman, whose work became a talking point in the first part, Akhanda 2 was anticipated to shatter records.

Despite all the hype and hoopla around the film, Akhanda 2 got a lot of negative reviews, and that might have impacted the film’s long run. After two weeks of run at the box office, the film managed to touch around $950K+ from the Overseas circuit, falling short of the 1 Million Mark. It collected 85 nett from the Telugu states as per trade buzz, which would be around 45+ crores share. Will that be a safe venture for everyone, as that happens to be the biggest collection?

Reports indicate that the movie’s pre-release business was much higher, and the current collections indicate that the buyers and exhibitors are still going to lose nearly 50% of their investment. That’s a shocker for sure, as the film already collected a lot, and if it could not make distributors into profits, it proves either that the film got oversold or there is cost-failure involved. Rumours have it that Akhanda is made with more than 150 crores, though producers never clarified the same.

On the other hand, makers are still promoting the film in Bollywood, and they are expecting that the Christmas holiday will give them 1 more week of terrific advantage.
