One of the greatest love stories on Telugu screen ever to be told is Geetanjali. Akkineni Nagarjuna and Girija starrer in the direction of Mani Ratnam made many youngsters believe in love by introducing love between two individuals who are on the death bed. The movie promoted the idea of loving and celebrating life rather than giving up on it, due to several reasons.

Death is a compulsion and letting it ruin your present is nothing but wasting an opportunity to live life to the fullest. The movie made this point through Girija's character and it is hard for any person to forget her after watching the movie. Well, the actress too looked highly attractive and likeable during the whole movie. After the movie release many thought the actress will rule South Indian Cinema, but suddenly disappeared! So what happened to her all these years?

Girija's real name is Girija Shettar and she is from Arscot, Great Britain. Her father belongs to Kannada diaspora and mother is a British citizen. She came to India to learn Bharatanatyam and Mani Ratnam pursued her to act in his movie. After making another movie, Hrudhayanjali, Girija lost complete interest in materialistic pleasures and joined Aurobindo Ashrams to explore her spiritual side. After that she submitted a thesis on Integral Yoga Philosophy and Indian Spiritual Psychology. She got a doctorate for work in 2003 from Cardiff University. Now she is working as a journalist in London and wrote several books as a writer. She does come to Aurobindo Ashrams in Pondicherry every year but she doesn't entertain any media attention.
