Veteran Actor-Writer Gollapudi Maruthi Rao Passes Away

Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, one of the finest actor and fantastic writer in Tollywood passed away in Chennai a while ago. 80-year-old Maruthi Rao is a versatile talent who was a screenwriter, theatre actor, playwright, dialogue writer and dramatist in films. He also published several novels, stories and wrote editorials in newspapers as well.

His weekly column 'Jeevama Kaalam', a Kaleidoscopic study of political and social issues was published in Andhrajyothy for over 24 years and he penned his autobiography titled, 'Amma Kadupu Challagunda' sharing his life memories.

He is a six-time Nandi award recipient in the best story, comedian, character actor, dialogues, screenplay and actor categories. He worked as an actor in over 230 films which include Into Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya, Leader, Samsaram Oka Chadarangam, Prema and many others. His last film was Aadi's 'Jodi' which released this year.

The news of his demise came as a shock to the entire industry and a few senior actors offered their deepest condolences.
