Recently Puri Jagannadh stated that he never cheated anyone except the audience who bought tickets and watched his movies. This philosophical letter sent by the dashing director led to a heated debate on social media. While some praise the director for accepting his mistakes and not blaming it on others, there are people who are pointing out the fact that this doesn't matter unless he rectifies his mistakes.
Looking at the last decade, Puri had only three good hits. The first film is 'Businessman' which came out in 2012. Though it was not a 'Pokiri' level success, the combo of Mahesh-Puri delivered big time and there are cult followers for his movie. The next movie is 'Temper' which came in 2015. This movie gave new life to NTR but it was Vakkantham Vamsi who penned the story but not Puri Jagannadh. The star director only penned the screenplay and dialogues apart from handling the megaphone.
Before 'Ismart Shankar' arrived in 2019, all the other movies he made were big failures. 'Devudu Chesina Manushulu', 'Iddarammayilatho', 'Heart Attack', 'Ism', 'Rogue', 'Jyothi Lakshmi', 'Mehbooba', 'Loafer' and others were failures. Movies like 'Romeo' and 'Romantic' which were written by Puri also ended up as huge disasters.
With the boost given by Ram's film, Puri spent more than two years on 'Liger' and we all know its result. Even the director's loyal fans were severely disappointed with this pan-Indian film. Though Puri had failures like 'Nenu Naa Rakshashi', 'Ek Niranjan', 'Neninthe' and others before, they had potential and there are people who still love these movies irrespective of their box office result. They were failures that his fans were proud of but his movies nowadays are very weak in the writing department which is very concerning as Puri is known for his hard-hitting mass scenes and dialogues. Many say that Puri started taking the audience for granted which led to these kinds of films. They are suggesting that the star director needs to take a serious look at himself and come up with stronger content from now on.
