Kamal Haasan in favour of Controversial Sport

Update: 2015-11-04 06:24 GMT
One can expect a controversy every time Kamal Haasan makes a public appearance as he is someone who doesn't mince his words. After refusing to return his National Awards in protest against rise of intolerance in the country, Our Legendary Personality stirred a controversy by extending his support to 'Jallikattu', a bull-taming sport which was quite popular in Tamil Nadu.

While taking part in the inauguration of a photo exhibition, Kamal Haasan explained 'Jallikattu' was meant to tame the bulls and never intended to physically harm them in any way. He opined causing harm to bulls during such festivals is a practice followed in countries like Spain & Italy, but not in India. He also believes its a sport specially meant for youth to prepare them for the toughest challenges of life.

Jallikattu is held every year during the Tamil harvest festival of 'Pongal'. However, Supreme Court imposed a ban on it last year following complaints from Animal Activists and Animal Welfare Board of India. But, Kamal Hassan says a sport like Jallikattu should be allowed.
